PULSE ROLL LABEL PRODUCTS LTD SET FOR NEW BESPOKE BASE

Yate’s Stover Trading Estate is to become the new home of Pulse Roll Label Products in a 24,000 sq ft deal negotiated by national commercial property consultancy.

The specialist ink manufacturer for the global printing market has taken a ten year lease on Unit U on the estate, located 11 miles north east of Bristol city centre.

On the advice of LSH and joint agent BNP Paribas, the property will undergo a significant refurbishment programme by the landlords prior to occupancy later this month (December). Works include new offices, improved security features and amenity areas.

To meet its business needs exactly, Pulse Roll is making further revisions through the addition of a laboratory which, explains director Gary Seward, is a key operational requirement.

He says: "For R&D purposes, high quality laboratory facilities are essential particularly when testing new inks used in the food manufacturing industry where segregation and non contamination is vital. At Pulse Roll we strive for good manufacturing practice and are confident these new premises, once complete, will give us the right amount of quality space in which to grow and develop our worldwide export business."

Tim Beare, Associate Director in LSH’s Bristol office commented: "Due to the nature of its operations the tenant needed accommodation which complied with its high specification requirements. Our client was able to provide this at Stover where, following works, Unit U will offer good quality space with excellent security and refurbished offices".

PULSE QUALIFIES FOR HP ‘How to Guide’

UK based ink manufacturer Pulse Roll Label Products has been added to the list of approved suppliers in the HP ‘How to guide’ – Selecting Varnishes and Over-lamination for HP Indigo Labels and Packaging Digital Press. The company qualifies following rigorous testing of two of its IV DigiTech UV flexo varnishes for digital printing at the HP Indigo demonstration centre in Spain and at its manufacturing facility in Israel.

The IV Digitech range of UV varnishes is aimed at users of HP Indigo digital presses and is available in gloss, matt, super matt and foil block-able formulations. The range also includes a UV primer that permits in-line UV printing or overprinting to accept digital inks. The formulations are suited to a wide range of substrates including coated paper, board, coated thermal paper, treated and primed synthetics as well as aluminium foils. A new addition to the range includes a high-slip digital varnish developed for wine labels that is available in a matt or gloss finish.

"The problem lies in achieving good product resistance when overprinting digitally printed webs" says Pulse Managing Director, Gary Seward. "The IV varnishes offer excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals as well as hot fill applications where conventional formulations tend to crack. HP has seen the benefits of these products in use at many of our customers. The Digitech IV UV overprint varnishes for HP Indigo presses have been specially formulated to provide optimised product resistance without the need to Corona treat or drive off residual imaging oil. We are delighted to have been added to the HP ‘How to guide’ which reflects our growing standing as a key international player in the label ink industry".

IVXXX - DIGITECH PRIMERS

DESCRIPTION
UV curable range of primers for use on varying substrates, to be subsequently overprinted with digital inks.

PROPERTIES
Flexo, screen and roller coat versions available. Gloss finish, Fast cure. Benzophenone, MBP, OHBP, BDK, ITX-free. Suitable for foil blocking/thermal transfer overprinting. Good chemical and product resistance. Excellent adhesion.
Unless the printed layer is a barrier to migration and there is no possibility of set off to the unprinted (food contact) surface, IV Digitech primers are not intended for food packaging specifications.
For applications where the material is not a barrier, or set off is possible, we recommend the use of Low Migration inks & varnishes. Contact us for further details.

It must also be mentioned that the Printer/Converter and Packer/ Filler has legal responsibility to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation for food packaging.
The Digitech range of primers was initially designed for subsequent overprinting with HP Indigo digital inks where the use of pre-primed material, or priming by the printer with traditional waterbased primers (such as Digiprime or Emicote) is not preferred or available, or where these traditional primers do not give the required adhesion. These primers may help the adhesive properties of other digital inks to difficult substrates, but their efficiency should be tested first. Please contact our sales representative or the laboratory for advice on the best primer to use for any particular application.

APPLICATION Stir well before use
Anilox 75 – 150 l/cm (200 – 300 l/in)
Film weight 4 – 12 volume, dependent on substrate
Rollers EPDM
UV lamps minimum 80 w/cm

SUBSTRATES Disclaimer: -
It is critical that these primers are fully tested rigorously before use. There is an optimum film weight for each substrate, and the efficiency of primed substrate needs to be tested not only immediately, but also once ‘aged’ for 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months ….etc..
The click rate will also need to be assessed during trials to ensure the blanket life and ink usage rate is unaffected whilst using these products, which are still under trial.
