PULSE ROLL LABEL PRODUCTS LTD SET FOR NEW BESPOKE BASE

Yate’s Stover Trading Estate is to become the new home of Pulse Roll Label Products in a 24,000 sq ft deal negotiated by national commercial property consultancy.

The specialist ink manufacturer for the global printing market has taken a ten year lease on Unit U on the estate, located 11 miles north east of Bristol city centre.

On the advice of LSH and joint agent BNP Paribas, the property will undergo a significant refurbishment programme by the landlords prior to occupancy later this month (December). Works include new offices, improved security features and amenity areas.

To meet its business needs exactly, Pulse Roll is making further revisions through the addition of a laboratory which, explains director Gary Seward, is a key operational requirement.

He says: "For R&D purposes, high quality laboratory facilities are essential particularly when testing new inks used in the food manufacturing industry where segregation and non contamination is vital. At Pulse Roll we strive for good manufacturing practice and are confident these new premises, once complete, will give us the right amount of quality space in which to grow and develop our worldwide export business."

Tim Beare, Associate Director in LSH’s Bristol office commented: "Due to the nature of its operations the tenant needed accommodation which complied with its high specification requirements. Our client was able to provide this at Stover where, following works, Unit U will offer good quality space with excellent security and refurbished offices".

PULSE QUALIFIES FOR HP ‘How to Guide’

UK based ink manufacturer Pulse Roll Label Products has been added to the list of approved suppliers in the HP ‘How to guide’ – Selecting Varnishes and Over-lamination for HP Indigo Labels and Packaging Digital Press. The company qualifies following rigorous testing of two of its IV DigiTech UV flexo varnishes for digital printing at the HP Indigo demonstration centre in Spain and at its manufacturing facility in Israel.

The IV Digitech range of UV varnishes is aimed at users of HP Indigo digital presses and is available in gloss, matt, super matt and foil block-able formulations. The range also includes a UV primer that permits in-line UV printing or overprinting to accept digital inks. The formulations are suited to a wide range of substrates including coated paper, board, coated thermal paper, treated and primed synthetics as well as aluminium foils. A new addition to the range includes a high-slip digital varnish developed for wine labels that is available in a matt or gloss finish.

"The problem lies in achieving good product resistance when overprinting digitally printed webs" says Pulse Managing Director, Gary Seward. "The IV varnishes offer excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals as well as hot fill applications where conventional formulations tend to crack. HP has seen the benefits of these products in use at many of our customers. The Digitech IV UV overprint varnishes for HP Indigo presses have been specially formulated to provide optimised product resistance without the need to Corona treat or drive off residual imaging oil. We are delighted to have been added to the HP ‘How to guide’ which reflects our growing standing as a key international player in the label ink industry".

Pulse Roll Label RW series inks have been formulated to comply with Food Packaging Legislation. Please see:-
Swiss List Eupia Information Note regarding the Swiss list.
EuPIA EuPIA information note on inks for food packaging. The raw materials are selected in accordance with the "Selection scheme for packaging ink raw materials" of the EuPIA Guideline. EuPIA 2
To achieve compliance it will be necessary to carry out a suitable evaluation. Please contact Pulse Roll Label for advice on this evaluation process. It must also be remembered that the manufacturer of the packaging and the filler are responsible for the properties of the food packaging and its compliance with legal requirements. The packaging ink suppliers are not able to issue certificates or declarations of compliance which cover the legal responsibility of others in packaging chain.

APPLICATION
Mix well before use. Anilox 90 - 120 l/cm. Cell volume 7-10 cm3/m2. Minimum dryer temp 500C with good air flow, Print speeds up to 150 m/min, Clean equipment immediately after use

SUBSTRATES
Uncoated and coated papers and boards. Top coated thermal paper with suitable varnish. Some filmic materials after testing.

GUIDELINES FOR USE
Thermal Printing: RW series can be used on top coated thermal paper; however a varnish such as RT200 should be used to provide adequate heat resistance. RT series inks are normally recommended for thermal printing.
Laser Printing: Not recommended for laser overprinting. RT series should be used.
Thermal Transfer/Hot Foil Printing: RW series are normally suitable for overprinting with thermal transfer ribbons or with hot foils. Due to the number of different machines and materials, trials are always recommended to ensure full compatibility before production commences.
Varnishes: Application of a waterbased or UV varnish will enhance the appearance and resistance properties of RW series inks. Consult our technical department for the best varnish to meet your needs.
Cleaning: Anilox rollers and equipment should be cleaned with waterbased ink cleaner such as RLA394 Flexwash Aqua III wash-up.

ADDITIVES
Under certain conditions, additives may be required to ensure optimum performance: -

Retarder: Up to 5% RLA330 can be added when the ink is observed to be drying too fast, for example in warm conditions or when press speeds are very low.
Defoamer: Up to 3% RLA322 should be well mixed into the ink to destroy any excess foaming. Do not exceed 3% addition.
Print Aid: Up to 5% RLA324 can be added to the ink when used on long print runs to ensure pH is maintained at an optimum level.
(NB - Do not add RLA324 if running jobs where ‘Nestle-compliance' is required.)
Reducer/Accelerator: Upto 5% RLA325 can be added to the ink if it is too viscous. This will also help to speed up the drying of the ink.
Accelerator: Upto 5% RLA326 can be added to the ink to speed up the drying of the ink.
Thickener: Upto 2% HAW00104 can be added to thicken up the ink to aid transfer and reduce mottle. Be careful as 2% addition of HAW00104 will take 10 minutes to take affect fully in the ink, and the drying speed can be reduced by over-additions of this additive.
